Who we are

The Global Diabetes Advocacy Network was launched in March 2024 to build an international network of individuals and organisations dedicated to transforming diabetes policy.

GDAN connects people affected by diabetes and diabetes advocacy organisations with policymakers, putting the patient voice at the centre of policymaking.

Our mission is to create a network that unites diabetes advocates and policymakers around the world to share information and push for policy change that matters to people affected by diabetes.

What we do

GDAN aims to empower all diabetes advocates to have a voice in global policy conversations.

Policy advocacy

To make a real difference for people affected by diabetes, we know that policy needs to change. We link diabetes advocates with policymakers around the world to ensure that patient experience is at the forefront of decision making.

International collaboration

There are common challenges around the world for people with diabetes. But there are also solutions that exist to tackle these problems. Our network provides a platform to share what works around the world, so that everyone can benefit from the best examples of diabetes policy and practice. Through collaboration, we are better placed to solve our common challenges.

Help diabetes advocates navigate the political world

It can be challenging for diabetes advocates to engage with policy makers. Political systems are complex and it can be difficult to know where to start to secure change. We connect advocates with Parliamentarians and provide the tools and education necessary so they feel confident engaging with policymakers. We work with advocates to empower them to take effective steps towards achieving policy change.

Deliver progress for all people affected by diabetes

Ultimately, our goal is to deliver meaningful progress for people living with, or at risk of, diabetes, wherever they are in the world. We seek to change health system attitudes, striving towards a world in which positive change is prioritised for those who are – or will be – affected by diabetes.

Our mission

Our mission is to unite diabetes advocates and policymakers around the world to share information and push for policy change that matters to people affected by diabetes.

GDAN aims to empower all diabetes advocates to have a loud voice in global policy conversations.

Our sights are set squarely on policy, with the goal of empowering meaningful change that improves the lives of people affected by diabetes, as well as those at risk in the future.

We want to move the parameters, rather than finding ways to operate within them. There are many common challenges for people with diabetes around the world, but there are also best practice solutions already happening. We know that through coordinated international action, we can make a difference.

Policy Documents

Our people

We are united by our shared experience of diabetes and our collective belief that policy change is the only way to achieve a world free from barriers to treatment and care for people with diabetes.

Our team and our members all have their own experience of diabetes – as patients, as caregivers, as health professionals, and as passionate advocates for a better world for people with diabetes.
