According to the World Health Organisation, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) now make up seven of the world’s top ten causes of death.
The data covers two decades within the period from 2000 to 2019 and shows an increase from 4 of the 10 leading causes in 2000.
The trends indicate the need for greater efforts to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, in all parts of the world.
This is consistent with the agenda for the UN Sustainable Development Goals on Health that PDGN was invited to comment on during the consultation state.
