Food Insecurity Link to Diabetes

A Canadian study has claimed that the average risk of developing type 2 diabetes doubles when someone cannot afford to eat regularly or eat a healthy diet.

The study, published by the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, defines household food insecurity as having uncertain or insufficient food access due to limited financial resources. Being on a limited budget may result in having to rely on cheaper, high-calorie foods that contribute to weight gain and the risk of chronic disease.

It recommends that policymakers should consider intervening early to reduce the burden of diabetes on individuals and the national healthcare system. Read more at: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news /health/food-insecurity-linked-to-type-2- diabetes-risk-10279376
