Occupational Hazards

Membership of PDGN continues to grow among elected representatives around the world, but the numbers change every time there is an election.

Since our last issue there have been elections that we know about in the Lebanon, Malta and Australia. To those who stood down, enjoy your new life, to those who lost their seat our commiserations, and to those who were re-elected, such as our European Chair Claudette Buttigieg, many congratulations.

We have a growing alumni section of former elected reps who wish to keep in touch, but unless we have their personal email addresses our communications bounce once their Parliamentary email accounts are closed.

Do please let PDGN have a personal email address for yourself. Just email info@pdgn.co.uk with your name, country, work email and personal email address.

Adrian Elected

Our Secretary General, Adrian Sanders, has been elected Chairman of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists Diabetes Care Trust.

He joined the ABCD Trust Board as its first lay member in 2019.

The Trust aims to improve the health of people with diabetes through clinical research and audit, advances in education and training of medical professionals, and increasing the knowledge and understanding of diabetes amongst the general public. The Trust supports projects which are in line with its aims as a charity.

PDGN Needs You!

Could you take on a role within the global network to help us to reach out and grow our membership and effectiveness in meeting the challenge of diabetes across the world? You will already be an advocate for the prevention, early diagnosis and best treatments for diabetes within your country. Could you become a global champion alongside our vice-presidents and help shape our strategy and activities?

The time commitment is open to you. There will be a few emails a year to respond to and an invite to a meeting when funding allows. We would hope you would persuade colleagues in your Parliament to join and keep us in touch with your activities.

For an informal chat about what’s required contact our Secretary General, Adrian Sanders, adrian@pdgn.co.uk
