Parliamentary Friends of Nutrition Group Formed

A Parliamentary Group has been formed in the Australian Parliament to raise awareness of the importance of nutrition for a healthy life, and to highlight the areas of most need for equity, improved access and affordability to high-quality nutrition.

The group is Co-Chaired by Senator Helen Polley (Labor) and Bridget Archer MP (Liberal), who have pledged to focus on the development and implementation of a renewed National Nutrition Policy.

They say that having a presence within the Parliament will enable them to give nutrition the prominence it deserves within Australian national health policy.

Prioritising nutrition is critical for addressing some of the most pressing health challenges all health systems face, with diabetes among the most pressing.

Advocacy Action: Cross party working within a group focussed on a particular subject is a most effective way for achieving positive outcomes. The principles behind cross party groups are the same whether for nutrition or diabetes and if you have both groups in your Parliament encouraging them to work together will enhance the influence of both. Let PDGN know about your group, or ask for our help on how to create and run one.
