PDGN News: Welcome Thapi

PDGN welcomes Thapi Semenya as our Digital Lead.

Thapi is from and based in South Africa, and has been living with diabetes for 17 years. She is passionate about advocacy. Over the years she had built up an audience on social media platforms that she uses to educate about her multiple chronic conditions namely Diabetes, Vitiligo and Bipolar Disorder.

She has an interest in global health and her biggest wish is to see Africa reach accessibility to technologies and improved healthcare.

Her volunteer work includes working as a Professional Advisor with a Glasgow based charity committed to raising awareness of and supporting disabled young people called The Luna Project UK (https://www.thelunaproject.org.uk). She is a dedoc° voice and volunteers as part of Media & Communications for Mutual Aid Diabetes. She is also a trainee in the IDF Young Leaders in Diabetes programme for 2022-2024.

Alongside maintaining and improving PDGN’s online presence, she is currently studying Law and hopes to specialise in health law. Thapi believes that African nations have always been good partners for high-income institutions as they develop and test new ideas. However, they are now at the forefront of developing novel approaches to healthcare, grounded in community-centered approaches, but which also capitalize on the potential of digital healthcare.

PDGN is delighted to welcome Thapi to our global advocacy team.
