Insulin Fears Allayed

Fear that fast-acting insulin ‘Fiasp’ used by approximately 14,000 people with Type 1 diabetes in Australia would be withdrawn have been allayed, at least temporarily.

This followed an outcry from patients, politicians and advocacy groups. PDGN highlighted the issue on its social media pages at the time the news broke that the insulins would be withdrawn.

Patients who already have a prescription will be able to refill their current scripts and repeat scripts at a pharmacy over the next six months.

The Government says it will continue to work with diabetes advocacy groups and industry to ensure Australians living with Type 1 diabetes will have access to fast acting insulin beyond this period.

PDGN hopes representatives in the Australian Parliament will hold their government to account on this.
